My friend on Facebook made this meme-thingy a few weeks ago, and while I wasn't tagged, I ganked it then. Got sidetracked a bit though and never finished it.  But as long it's Pokemon Day today (21st anniversary of the series!), I felt like I should finish it.

Rules: Must use a Pokemon that matches the type ONCE (for example, you can't use Charizard as both your favorite Fire Type and Flying Type) and give a brief explanation as to why. No Megas. No Legendaries/Ultra Beasts. Blank copy in the comments. I'm supposed to tag five people to do this too, but I'm really uncomfortable about tagging people, so if you read this and want to do it, just pretend I tagged you. Thanks for playing along. ;P

So without further ado:

Normal: Jigglypuff
Reason: I had a hard time choosing for Normal, because I tend to find the Type a bit bland. I ultimately settled with Jigglypuff though, despite having never actually used it in the Pokemon games. I do, however, use it quite frequently in Smash Bros, and consider it among my better characters there. So I guess I have a little fondness for this one.

Fighting: Pancham
Reason: Similarly, I'm not big on Fighting Types either. But Pancham is admittedly pretty adorable, and its portrayal in the show as being kind of an aloof, little brat was pretty fun. I'm not big on its evolution into Pangoro, but I rather like this little guy.

Flying: Drifblim
Reason: Do you know I never noticed until filling this out that there's only one pure Flying Type (and it's not this one)? XD Anyway! I know a lot of people hate on the Pokemon based on objects, but I always kinda loved them - Drifloon and Drifblim in particular, for the genuinely spooky lore attached to them.

Ground: Golurk
Reason: Though it was a tight race, I believe Golurk is my favorite Ground Type. I've always had kind of a fondness for golems (in the mythology/fantasy sense), and I think it looks super cool. Also, knowing it can learn Fly makes it that much cooler. I like to imagine it has rocket boots or something. XD

Poison: Koffing
Reason: I might not be into Pokemon at all if not for Koffing. I remember seeing early info about Pokemon before it came out and wondering if it was for me. Then there was some footage of James' Koffing from the anime, just floating with that derpy grin on its face in the background. I found that incredibly amusing, and decided I wanted one. And that was honestly all it took as the rest is history. There might be another Poison Type I actually like more, but Koffing will always hold a special place in my heart, so I needed to include it here.

Rock: Aron
Reason: Although its evolutions are also pretty cool, I particularly like Aron itself by virtue of being this little "tiny tank". Especially since it evolves so late, when a lot of the rest of your team already has... and it's still holding its own. What a little badass! XD

Bug: Vivillon
Reason: I'm not usually big on Bug Types, much like real life bugs. I admit I was charmed by this one though. I can't quite place why (it's more cute than gross, most likely), but I do like it a lot. The various different wing designs based on their origins is a really cool touch too (even if I personally only ever experienced about two patterns myself).

Ghost: Gourgeist
Reason: Ghost would be a tough category as I think it's one of my favorite Types, but Gourgeist is still easily one of my very favorite overall Pokemon. I'm not even 100% sure why. I think it's just a lot of my own headcanon imagining it to be very clingy. Also it's really cute. Who knew a snuggly ghost pumpkin would appeal to me so much? XD

Steel: Magnezone
Reason: Let's examine the evolution line, shall we? The original form, Mangnemite, is a magnet. It then evolves into Magneton, which is three magnets. Finally, it becomes Magnezone... which basically looks like a freaking spaceship. It blows my mind how cool this thing is (again, I love object Pokemon). XD

Fire: Ninetales
Reason: Another tough one. Honorable mentions go out to Rapidash, Cyndaquil, Chandelure, and Braixen. Ninetales wins all for me though. And although its Alolan form isn't a Fire type, I rather love that variant too.

Water: Milotic
Reason: My number one favorite Pokemon! It's cool, beautiful, incredibly powerful, and it was the first one I’d ever leveled up to 100. I was just immediately enamored by it. And the fact that I had to work so hard to “earn” it back in Ruby made it mean some much more to me. Also, there's my crackpot theory about it representing the trans experience (it doesn't; you don't need to call me out on it).

Grass: Lurantis
Reason: Though Lilligant, Vileplume, and Cherrim were close contenders for this one, Lurantis was easily among my new all time favorites with Sun/Moon. I was very drawn to it's classy, pretty, almost dainty design, and yet it's anything but weak or fragile (it was kinda the star of my team, in fact). I admit, I still don't understand why this wasn't also part Bug, as it's clearly based on a mantis. But whatever. I still love it. Easily now in my top ten.

Electric: Alolan Raichu
Reason: I mean, regular Raichu is great too, but the Alolan form in particular is just so charming. I'm sorry, it psychically lifts its own tail so it can surf around in the air on it. It even sleeps while "float-surfing" on it. I have a hard time looking at it without smiling.

Psychic: Gothorita
Reason: Psychic might've been a hard Type to narrow down, but a few of my other favorite Psychic Types are dual Types and elsewhere on this list. Still, I do love this whole evolution line, and they were one of the ones I was most excited for when going into Black/White. I singled out middle stage Gothorita over its other forms though for being what I think is the most cheek-pinchingly cute.

Ice: Glaceon
Reason: It's odd, but for someone who hates the cold as much as I do, I really like lot of Ice Types. And yet, this is still easily by far my favorite. It's just so pretty and charming, and I think I want one in real life. It's also an easy choice for my favorite Eeveelution.

Dragon: Dragonite
Reason: This was a tough decision, because I love so many Dragon Types. I was very torn between this and Goodra and Flygon (or even either of Dragonite's earlier forms!). But Dragonite in particular wins out perhaps for sentimental reasons, as I think it may be my most used Pokemon throughout the history of the games. It's incredibly simple-looking, but it's cute and it's badass, and I just adore it (and its earlier forms).

Dark: Absol
Reason: So the rules of this insist "no Megas", and I admit that a large part of why I like Absol is its Mega Evolution (those angel wings!). That said, I've always been a little iffy on Dark Types, making this one a shoe-in anyway. Partly because it's really cool (even a little eerie in a way if you follow the lore) and partly because it still looks fluffy and huggable despite that.

Fairy: Gardevoir
Reason: So I love Gardevoir. It's class and elegance when I first saw one made it an instant favorite for me. I'm not gonna lie; I'm super uncomfortable with its reputation as a "sexy" Pokemon, because I feel like I can't say I like Gardevoir without people assuming I like it for dirty reasons. It's frustrating, and it's caused me to usually dial back on gushing how much like this one. But I'd rather be blunt and say it's easily among my favorites. Other people can like it for whatever reason they want; I just love it because it's cool.
