RAIN p239 - Siblings by JocelynSamara RAIN p239 - Siblings by JocelynSamara

Based on comments from the last page, it seems most of you have figured it to be the case that Rain hasnít been open with her siblings before her friends did (or at least her brother; itís already long been confirmed that her sister doesnít know). So despite that being something of a big reveal at the end of this page for her friends, itís not actually terribly surprising to [most of] the readers. The more revealing information for you, the readers, is actually in the middle of the page.

Apparently, Rain doesnít talk much about herself to anyone. But why? Could it be a fear of opening up? Does she dislike her family? Did this topic just NEVER come up in conversation in the past four months?

Rain, all characters and all other aspects of the story are copyright material belonging to me.

Also, if you enjoy the comic, please vote for "Rain" on TopWebComics!

It was partially this comic that I came out to my mom, sister and uncle with my plan to start transitioning. That was last christmas, short after my actual decision to finally do it.
Now I have a well paid job, a place of my own to live, space and freedom to experiment and I will start officially within the next few weeks.

Still afraid, even if my core-family told me that they will love me however. ((o.o))

I mean "partialy *thanks* to this comic"

Well hopefully after 2 years it's still going well, it's good to know that just one story is able to help people with their life

It was rainchecked a bit longer, as I had to find a therapist. I did so by June 2013 and am now in psychotherapy for over 12 months.
Fucking German guidelines for that require that long time of psychotherapy before giving me access to hormones.
Next week is my next appointment where I get that darn letter. Hopefully. :D

On the plus side, since May I am practically living full time as woman. My friends, colleagues and family accept me and I since I was rather "lucky" in my first puberty, I don't stick out as man too much.

Congratulations.  I hope you have a wonderful life as a woman.   Pardon the random hug, but it's fun to be kind and supportive.

Thank you a lot. ^___^
I could start HRT four weeks ago. FINALLY! :D :D :D
Not feeling much different yet, but I think, this should gradually set in soon.
Wiinner159 Featured By Owner Jul 11, 2014
Well hopefully that changes in the near future as to finally look the same way your brain thinks. I can see you do your a little like Rain's except opposite side. Feels weird how someone you don't really know is comfortable enough to share such a big amount of personal info.
TenaKitten Featured By Owner Jul 13, 2014
I didn't know this when I wrote that comment yet, because I didn't want to go through all the post in my mailbox.
But just today, I happened to find a letter from my therapist in there. With a rainbowflag post stamp. ^_^
And it contained a letter to the endocrinologist and a referral sheet for me for the endocrinologist. :D
I will make an appointment there tomorrow morning. Squee!
It's actually happening! :D

About that personal info thing, I try to be as open as open as possible (and comfortable) and answer questions to those who are curious. I love curiousity because it leads to knowledge and understanding. Not to mistake for nosyness. :D

It might be easier in Germany than in the US. Since my big coming out, I changed workplaces (it was planned long before that). And I assume that everyone I work closer with knows about my transidentity. But nobody asks weird questions and just accepts me. I even get greeting smiles from other women in the ladies restroom.

*shrugs* Somehow I kind of doubt it would, given how much of their lives seem to have revolved around the immidiate goings-on. People from Rain's family that she never talks to? Why would she talk about that when dealing with Gavin, Maria, ect? Then again, I'm not entirely sure just how much time has passed since the start of the comic...

But...yeah. The moment Fara said "Ryan says he'll be delighted...", it was kind of obvious. ^^;

Well i am not surprised by the fact that she hasn't told her brother and sister, and it see most people aren't either. It is interesting to see that Rain hasn't talked all that much though i guess she just doesn't feel like talking about her family. I do love how Fara is so nonchalant about it though. I don't know if we will see Ryan or not, but i am quite sure that after all of this is done at least her brother will know.

Rain should just deal with these loose ends by coming out to them. Either they're accepting and everything's peachy, or they're not and at least at that point Fara would likely be a little more understanding of her avoidance of them. Neither her brother nor her sister have any real say in Rain's life (as opposed to a parent, an authority figure from school, an employer etc.) so she's got nothing to lose even if one or both of them freak out. sleepover at Gavin's house? C'mooooon! Pretty please?

I am curious. Does Jocelyn have siblings?
JocelynSamara Featured By Owner Sep 12, 2012  Professional Writer
I do. And on an unrelated note, I am the youngest of three siblings (by many years), with one brother and one sister. Oh, and I still haven't come out to them.

I say unrelated though because my brother and sister are actually nothing like Aiken and Kellen. There are a lot of similarities, but just in case was thinking it, Rain's siblings aren't really based on mine.
coffinstufferd Featured By Owner Sep 12, 2012
No, but I was wondering if Rain's experience would be based on yours. I haven't come out to mine either.

From a common moral standpoint, Fara has a point.

But I am very much against how she forced the situation. And she really isn't making herself look any better in my eyes at this point....

When someone puts alot of effort into moving away from their family and cutting off all ties to their past lives, it makes sense that they didn't tell their family about who they really are. I guess this is a chance for Rain to open up a little bit since she keeps herself to herself, and judging from her dialouge over the last few pages, she probably feels some level of resentment towards her family because she remembers them as the ones who forced her to be male throughout her childhood.
I've said it before and I said it again, I'm really curious to see where this goes.

Rain is going to have to lay his problems aside and realize that his brother is going to be bringing his own emotional baggage along. I am also curious if his friends will get to see Ryan, and what he will do for school. Don't forget to add the neighbors to wreck havoc on any plans.

She's worried that they won't accept her for who she is. I think she feels like they wouldn't understand. I think that might be a legit feeling since her siblings do seem to be wrapped up in their own worlds.
Saborous Featured By Owner Sep 11, 2012
well whatever the reason she has for keeping to herself, i think aunt fara just ruined the secret for the new girl

does anyone else think Rain is being a bit harsh to her siblings. and yes Fara could go about it in a better way but she also has a point

...Didn't her siblings say a loooong time ago that she couldn't be a mommy? I'm not too surprised she hasn't told either. Makes sense.

(On a separate note, I sent your page to :iconcluedog:, who's recently decided to start transition. I assumed you'd be willing to help with family issues and offer tips?)

Oh crap.
transgendergamer Featured By Owner Sep 11, 2012
I don't blame either Rain or Fara here. I really hope this ends well, but remains complex enough to be engaging and consistent with the rest of the series rather hectic nature (I'm sure the second part is going to be the case but it ending well, I'm unsure/curious, which only shows that the author is doing her job really well.) ;).

Awesome, and yet... predictable. Lol

i just dont think she likes talking about it. im gonna reach way back here and pull out an example from page 1. when little Ryan said he wanted to be a mommy, they made fun of him. i think there could be some deep emotional issues coming from things like that. artwork wise, i love the looks on their faces of complete shock
