Oh boy. This should be interesting. Weve never actually seen these two alone together.

Just a friendly reminder, Heather is a college student, so she will have taken and passed whatever math Rain is flunking years ago. For the sake of argument, were gonna say she majors in something math-related so that shes legitimately good at it. ^_^

Man my older sister was like that helping me with my maths but like that to cure me to like boys! But everyones different and somepeople struggle at maths, some people fuck around (Being bad at maths on purpose e.g pissing off the teacher) and be excellent at maths and might get good jobs in life but gender has nothing to do with this people!

true, in my class the girls are great at math and the boys aren't very good. also, the stereotype that girls are better at languages is also bs, girls in my class are average at them while the boys... yeah the boys aren't that good either.

:) I was wondering if/when a character was going to point that out. Us transgirls seem to revel in every female-steryotype we happen to have. But if all of these steryotypes are socially constructed, and we can theoretically do anything, what does our physical sex matter?

Under this reasoning, no transgender would exist. Its also why my trans-ness becomes impossible to defend....

*sighs*

In my opinion, transgenderism is not something defined by socially constructed ideals or anything. It's based on how we feel. If someone appeared to be a man - and had masculine clothes, build, traits, features, interests and so on - but said to me, "I'm a woman on the inside", I would accept this and refer to her as such without a second thought. Who am I to say that she's not, simply because she doesn't find interest in things that society deems is feminine? There're ultra-femmy transgirls (like me, or Rain), but there're also tomboy transgirls who don't want to be extremely feminine; they just want to be female (and, of course, vice versa with transmen too).

That tells to me that society has no part in transfolk being trans. We're transgendered because of something much deeper; something that only the transperson in question can know for themselves (and no one else). Of course, I'm sure people would argue this, but those who would fight it would fight anything I say either way. So, I don't really try too hard to explain myself to people who "don't want to get it". I'd just be wasting my time and theirs.

Exactly. Which brings me to my biggest issue in my current life in terms of transiness. But I've been over that song and dance plenty of times before. Short version: They're looking for 'proof' that doesn't exist. They don't WANT me to be trans, on account of just how much a hassle it'll be for them, and how it'll potentially ruin every child's life. *rolls eyes*

Transgenderism isn't a matter of science. (Or maybe it is, but if it is then its more complicaited then a list of specific 'trans traits' that I'm supposed to be able to check off.) Its an issue of the soul. I can't prove I'm trans. I just KNOW.

Its certainly easy to say that you just wouldn't argue it. But the people whom I have to argue it to happen to control all the money, supply my food and the roof over my head, and are paying for my education.

As for me, I'm acctually somewhere in between. :) I love pretty dresses and adorable animals, and I also love giant swords and explosions. I want to dress up just as much as I want to swing a stick, pretending its a sword.

Not shoes though. Never really been into shoes. ^^; They're so small and make such little impact....nyan...

Do I smell a hardcore "math montage" coming up?

Seriously, though, this page captures Rain at her wit's end. Since Rain's started going out with Rudy, Maria bears animosity towards her and Gavin's feelings of attraction to her. Both of them feel uncomfortable around Rain, and so are unwilling to help her. And while I'd imagine Rudy would want to help, being two years below her means he really can't. Rain has no friends who are willing and able to help her; it really is a tragic situation. And then...

The distress call hits Heather's ears - a young woman who's been beaten down by math and circumstances, stewing in frustration and self-doubt! With a flash, Heather grabs her mighty Calculator of Justice, dashes up to the apartment, breaks down the door with a single kick, cartwheels her way to Rain's room, and prepares to help Rain crush her math homework into submission! ...At least, that's how it went in my head.

Heather showing up definitely is a surprise. As you mentioned, Rain and Heather have never interacted one-on-one, so it'll be interesting to see how they get along. It is good to see at least one person backing Rain up, when she feels like she has no one. Hopefully, Rain will not only get her homework done and gain a better understanding of the material, but she'll also invest a bit in her relationship with Heather. Also, that Heather "majors in something math-related" instantly earns her a tremendous amount of points in my book (I'm a math major, actually).

Ah... that was fun. Commenting on Rain really does help me relieve stress, and it makes me feel accomplished (it probably shouldn't, because I'm not actually accomplishing anything, but whatever). Anyway, Lynn, thanks for giving me little break in my day, and for this chance to engage in some real-time literary analysis (that's what I'm calling it now, heh heh). I love watching the story, the characters, and the relationships all develop. As always, I look forward to more!

Actually, I don't believe that Heather's aware that Rain is transgender. The fact that Heather refers to Rain as being a statistic on "womankind", coupled with her attitude toward transgender tendencies in Kylie, indicate that Heather has no idea that Rain is biologically male. What Rain says in the first panel does not, on its own, suggest that she is biologically male; the same thing could have been spoken by any cisgender girl.

At least, that's my take on it.

And Heather to the rescue. Maybe Rain will pass with Heather's help lets hope so, but why do i get the feeling that after she's done she's going to start asking Rain a bunch of random questions and try to figure her out. Either way it should prove interesting.

This could be the answer to all of Rain's prayers...just as long as Heather doesn't start making any personal questions or reveal anything about Ky whilst they're studying.
