Hurray for twofers. The first page could’ve probably stood alone just fine, but I wanted that last part in there. The script I pre-wrote seemed to think I could contain this whole thing in one page (silly me). But stubbornness wins in the end as I force it all into one update… regardless of how time constrained I’ve been lately.

There’s a LOT to comment on in these two pages (up to and including that we learn quite a bit about Chase), but let’s focus on the most important thing… the possible previous meeting of Rain and Chase.

I’m sure we’ve all been in both situations, actually. One: you know you met someone before but can’t quite place where. Two: they recognize you, but you don’t know them. Both can be crappy situations. The latter can be especially crappy hoever if you’ve only recently begun presenting yourself publicly with a different identity.

Today I thought I’d wrap my blurb a little differently by summing up the chapter so far. I think if anyone’s confused, this might help clarify the end of the second page: Kylie knows something’s up. Chase might know something’s up. Rudy’s a danger to her passability. Emily fudging hates her for completely unrelated reasons. And Maria’s nowhere to be found (and Gavin’s mingling, I guess). All this in a crowded party that she will require a ride from Kylie’s closed-minded sister to get away from (with, no doubt, a questioning Kylie in the car with her). In other words, Rain’s life sucks right now.

Rain, all characters and all other aspects of the story are copyright material belonging to me.

"She who must be obeyed."

Is that a Rumpole of the Bailey reference?

I have actually never heard of that, so not really. I mean, I've heard the line many times from many sources, so it's not exactly an original line; more like a classic. Perhaps it originates from this reference you mention, but otherwise, I really don't know where the line originated from.

Ah, after some research, it turns out the phrase was originally coined in She - A History of Adventure, by Henry Rider Haggard.

Learning about historical memes is fun. ^_____^

That's actually pretty cool. Thank you for sharing your findings. ^_^

The way you described it made me question my own scripts a bit. But I guess seeing it written out and than drawn out ae two completely different things. Its definitely something a n00b will need to get over if s/he would want to be a comic artist in that sometimes its good to just go with the unknown impulse to just fllow with what you see despite how you originally written it.

it also makes me think of the idea of encounters and sometimes they don't have to be alll big and dramatic, but can be brief and innocent but still leaves an impression without reason. Kind of weird to know which side Chase is placed on this weird little chart of meetings. And seeing all the stuff that built up to this point that you have listed before this is officially a "my life super sucks" moment.

Onto the actual comic, I believe you made a good decision to continue this way, knowing how overly dramatic a rip of an entire paper towel roll is you need a slow build up where it is just a simple "hey Rain, hey Chase, hope your having fun, i hope so too" and than shooting in the back with a "I think I know you". Again, by itself it doesn't mean anything. But after what we saw before it means everything. Recipe for paranoia.

(Hope I'm not repeating any unnecessary views on these comments)

*looks at minimized version after watching two hours of "Death Note"* Hey, where did Rain get that Death Note from?

Seriously, though, I very much like these twofers! One thing I noticed is that, when two pages are paired together, they tend to flow better than when two consecutive pages are released separately. That's not to say that the comic usually flows badly (it doesn't! I like the flow), but just to say that the twofers usually feel more like an extended single page.

Anyway, this page offers some direct Chase-Rain interaction (you should feel lucky, Chase! getting a private audience with the main character, and for two pages, no less!). Apparently, Chase (or Chase's parents) is swimming in the money, to have a house this big. We also see him more in the "begrudging boyfriend" role, as he seems to treat Emily as an annoyance. Having said that, I think he does like her, just in a... weird sort of way. Else, I don't see why he'd be with her. And of course, he maintains the image of being a pretty cool guy.

His comment about knowing Rain from somewhere sets up a few possible directions. Perhaps Chase appeared somewhere in Rain's (Ryan's) past, but both have changed so that neither one really recognizes the other; in this case, he may end up taking on a larger role than just "Emily's boyfriend". The alternate possibility is that Chase is just mistaken about recognizing Rain, in which case, he's probably a one-chapter character. Either way, it's thrown Rain even further off-kilter. And apparently, when Rain gets nervous, she also gets SUPER STRENGTH! Have you been holding out on her super powers until now, Lynn? But seriously, it just goes to show HOW Rain is uncomfortable right now. I get the terrible feeling she's headed for disaster, or maybe breakdown. Hopefully her friends will be able to help, but then again... they might just make it worse.

Artisticly, I love Rain's expression in the last panel. It shows just how badly she's freaking out right now, and it's cute (in a creepy, unsettling sort of way). And as far as rolls of paper towels go, the one you've drawn is pretty good (very... papery. and rollish). And the RIP animation in the last page still does kind of look like a death note to me, possible because of the style of font and that it's imposed over Rain's black outfit. (Hm... crossing "Rain" with "Death Note"... I'll have to remember this one)

As usual, a great pair of pages that add more drama into the story, while also bringing out more characterization. Wonderful, as usual!
