(Hey, DA suddenly allows longer deviation titles! I never used to be allowed to make titles like that.)

The thing I think we’re most interested in on this page is the segment of “Halloween Princess Pandora”. This is easily the most out-of-place thing to ever appear in this comic to date. Much like the Kaminari references a few chapters ago, this has its significance. You’re free to determine it however you wish though. ^_^

As an aside, I initially intended to have Aidyn (the samurai costume in the previous two pages) talking to Maria here. It felt a little detached for him suddenly go and BS about anime immediately after Rudy and Drew’s little scene though, so I inserted this other little known character instead. Chanel was originally intended to be more of sports person, but I guess she’s now an anime-loving sports person. Not as planned, but I’m willing to run with it.

Rain, all characters and all other aspects of the story are copyright material belonging to me.

Awww, foreshadowing.

I love how this somewhat forgettable page ends up being a huge instance of foreshadowing. Jocelyn's so clever like that.

:D I do that thing too! "Speaking of *current subject*, *some other unrelated subject*." Occasionally worth a short chuckle. :P

Hmm... That "Lord of Nightmares" looks a little like Nightmare, which is a Metroid Fusion boss...
Well, it sort of does.

I have to disagree with you on that one 2 years in the past Brixmon, only simularity I can find is they somewhat have a similar shape, and also, putting a link to a page with Nightmare's face to be seen isn't exactly something you'd just throw around, it's too putrid to display

Did Chanel appear in something else, the way you describe it it seemed like she did? But than again how ofter do we find reusing characters anyway. But I have to admit I enjoy the camo look on darker skinned people.

Also love how Pandora is ment as more of a reflection of Maria. That hidden behind her responsible and sometimes concerned exterior their is a somewhat untamable rage and even desire for expression. Such the same as Kaminari represents Rain's sense of rejection, Pandora is Maria's desire to be heard. In someway its so simple, but it is truth. Also loved how you put so much care into your extras, you didn't have to show Pandora's battle with the Lord of Nightmares, but without it I don't think Pandorawouldn't have been as important to Maria. What self respecting otaku can't name every episode and favorite quote from their favorite anime by heart afterall. So it really was a step toward making it e best it can.

Also love your design for the Lord of Nightmares, kind of Giygas-y interms that he is a form that can't be comprehended by human hearts, and yet we don't question it. And enjoy the metal mask as a way of giving him an apperience of self mutilation, but still with a grin like it is the most fun it will ever have. Also love the slight Disgaea presentation as he speaks like you would expect from an underworld king while still being mocked by your well loved hell bound hero with an attitude.

I was very disappointed with this page! It's titled "Lord of Nightmares", but our favorite Dark Lord Norman fails to make a showing!

Seriously, though, this page is Chanel's biggest appearance so far in "Rain". Previously, she's been little more than a stock character, but here she receives some characterization. We see that, much like several of the main heroes, she's an HPP fan. We also learn that she and Maria don't know one another, but that they both know Todd. Of course, even with Chanel present, the star of the page is really Maria. Not only is she the one in the costume, but she's also the one whom the plot is going to follow, after all is said and done. Presumably, an upcoming page will show her cracking Todd Bittner in the face with her scepter. I very much look forward to this.

I do, however, have a point of continuity complaint. Gavin dropped Todd's name in page 126, which was set in mid-September. Has Maria really waited over a month to enact justice, when they both go to the same (small) school? Is she trying to ruin Emily's party? (that was only halfway rhetorical, as it sounds like something she might actually do). Still, I can see how something like this functions well for the plot; you did want to condense as much as possible into the party, and what's more dramatic than a fight at a party? I guess I'll just have to suspend my disbelief a bit (all good works require it, at times!).

Artisticly, this page is unique in that it combines the fuzzy overworld style with the thin-line story-in-the-story style. "Unique" may not be the right word, as this technique has been used before, for the Kaminari pages and a previous page featuring Pandora. It helps to distinguish between the two settings, kind of like how thought bubbles always have fuzzy edges. Oh, and the half-face shot of Pandora in panel 4 is really awesome.

Overall, this is another good page. It brings deeper detail to a side character, and it promises to open up a new story arc. Very promising, indeeed.

It may delight you to know that there is a perfectly legitimate reason for Maria's extended wait for this confrontation. I can't tell you what it is yet (due to spoilers), but I want you to know this wasn't just an oversight on my part.

I always think every minute little detail through. I'm a details person, I am.

You mean like the address on Emily's invitations? ;) (That's right, don't think that I've forgotten!)

Seriously, though, one thing I really like is how much detail you put into your writing, so that situations "work together" phenomenally. Kind of like in this chapter, with the "gay pirate" joke. Or how you used "Kaminari" in chapter 3 to represent the main characters I MEAN what there was no symbolism there what are you talking about...

So, sorry for the pre-emptive doubts! I should've known you have something planned for this... and I look forward to finding out what it is!
