I enjoyed this page a lot. Itís always fun giving the foreground to a number of characters who donít normally get so many lines. Devonís ďcostumeĒ may actually be my favorite one to draw so far. It can be a chore to make sure the bandages (or toilet paper) line up in the appropriate direction, but I feel like the end result is so worth it.

Rob and Drew, being best buddies, decided to compete a little as ninja and pirate respectively. In Drewís case, I donít personally understand what constitutes a ďgay pirateĒ, but this scene is loosely based on a real incident at a real Halloween party in which a straight friend of mine was dressed as a pirate and was thought to be a ďgay pirateĒ by many people. Again, I donít really know what aspect caused this confusion, but I guess thatís just teenagers for you. Anyway, said theme fits well in the story, so I slapped it in here.

Then thereís Chase. Who the hell is he? Apparently, heís Emilyís boyfriend (at least, Iím really hoping thatís apparent by the last panel). But what kind of guy is he? You know, besides a much taller and seemingly older guy. The two of them together represent a popular couple costume choice of devil and angel.

And I canít even begin to list all of the ironic points in thereÖ

Rain, all characters and all other aspects of the story are copyright material belonging to me.

I just now noticed that Rob is a ninja and Drew is a pirate.

No wonder they don't get along. :XD:

I was honestly convinced he was her older brother or something. Maybe a father. pirate....maybe if you were a boy, wearing a pink headband with plenty of hearts...but I doubt thats what really happened. ^^;

Again, I love the perspective of Halloween with the other kids. Drew seems to be having more fun, but at the same time wants to defend his intention. Again, its one of those comments on popular culture that all Pirates are pretty and gay the same as Vampires are sparkly. Devon is a little more refusal and maybe that is why he is wrapped in toilet paper, if he were to have chosen a costume he probably wouldn't have been punished like that. But I guess that is what happens to be with the popular crowd. Rob however is just there, I bet you he came for the food.

Now Chase leads me to question, this being his first time, I would've assumed him to be Emily's dad. But seeing he is most likely a boyfriend I assume he must be in college or something. Thus playing into the popular kid stereotype since it is considered a requirement for girls to date much older guys for better living. But not much to say about first meeting, except to say that Emily must be trying very hard to show she has an amazing life with he choice of Devil/Angel costumes. But as a said, its a consequence for popularity.

Until the last panel I assumed Chase was an older brother.

Yar, har, fiddle dee dee, Drew are a pirate!

Seriously, though, let the party start! We get a chance to see some of the minor boys in costume: Devon as a mummy, Rob as a ninja, and Drew as a (gay?) pirate. Devon's costume, coupled with his answer to Emily's invitation way back when, show his preference for routine (one of my own biggest traits!); his story reveals more of Emily's forcefulness. Drew and Rob's costumes use the pirate vs. ninja concept to express their friendship (and, perhaps, rivalry?). Emily as an angel could be used for a few things: revealing how highly she holds herself, ironic comparison for how bad she actually is, or feud with Rain over her similar costume. Also, we get introduced to a new character: Chase, who is Emily's dad! Wait a minute... boyfriend? What is he, like, forty? Well, this just got weird. Chase's devil costume is obviously used to pair with Emily's costume. It also puts his personality into question: by his interactions with Drew, he could be seen as either bullying or jovial. We don't know that he's bad, but we've no promise that he's good, either.

The last panel, of course, nicely sets up the next page, to show the main characters' reception. Emily had better be nice to them (she won't but...). They are the main characters, after all. They eat secondaries like her for breakfast.

Emily as an angel and Rain as a dark angel??? really... ¨¨

While Emily as an angel is REALLY ironic, it's always better to face the devil you know than the devil you don't. This Chase fellow fits the "devil you don't" category quite nicely.

Guy in devil costume. I don't think that's just a coincidence
