RAIN p120 - Blah Blah Blah by JocelynSamara RAIN p120 - Blah Blah Blah by JocelynSamara
(Decided to post very early today. You know, as long as I'm here right now.)

This page is dedicated to my lady love, whose patience is nothing short of infinite when it comes to putting up with my moping and crying and fretting over the same problems over and over again. ^_^

The funny thing is that panel 5 originally had REAL dialogue. But after reading it a couple times, I started to get déjà vu. Like, “I think Rain has already gone on about this”. So, I summed up Rain’s concerns into three choice words. It ups the humor of the page, and lessens the repetition. Good change, if I do say so myself.

XD I do the same thing to my online buddies.

Heck, it makes it all the worse, because there's not even differing inflections. :P I get all stressed out, wanna talk to someone, and wind up ranting everything I've already saaaid.

Bleh.

this is little the story of both of our lives. How no matter how much things are even slightly going our way we still have reason to worry.

Now that has to be the smartest idea. For the transpeople (and normal people) reading this we can pretty much tell what Rain is going to say. So haing it translated into "worry, worry, blah, fret" has to be the best way to ease the situation. And to be honest, its great to see that even though you wish Rain to be happy, you have no problem making fun of her as well.

Why do I get the feeling that she's going to be outed? Or is that just my own paranoia of the same projecting onto it...?

Wife, actually. I've just been refering to her as "lady love" forever, so the title still sticks.

Hmm...is this a call-back to the car scene in the first pages of the first chapter? This looks familiar.

Just a similar setup. There have actually been a few pages consisting of Rain and Fara talking in the car. I guess it might get a little redundant-looking, but it does seem to effectively get the job done when I use it.

You've gotta love Aunt Fara (when she's not beating Mrs. Parker to a pulp, that is)!

Seriously, though, this page is yet another testament to Rain's neuroticism and Aunt Fara's reassuring nature. We get to see the mutual confidence that exists between Rain and Aunt Fara. We get to hear Rain's own feelings about the party. And we catch a rare glimpse of Aunt Fara's patient side, which seems to be reserved for Rain. I love how Aunt Fara functions as Rain's rock, reinforcing her and holding her up when she is worried. Their relationship is closer, even, than most mother-daughter relationships.

Artistically, your characters are, as always, very well-drawn. I especially love Aunt Fara's face in the fourth and fifth panels, as well as Rain's downcast look in the third panel. The first thing I noticed when I saw this page (before I even opened it up) was how BLUE it was. Every one of your pages seems to be defined by one background color. While that isn't necessarily a bad thing, it might be worth your time to use different colors to distinguish between background and non-person foreground (like, making the car windows a different color?). I'll admit, though, the whole talking-heads-with-a-single-color-background style has kind of grown on me. One could say it has the effect of of moving the reader's attention away from the physical scene, and onto the characters, and what they have to say. (That doesn't mean I'm going to stop petitioning for backgrounds anytime soon, though!).

Also, I love your story of changing Rain's speech to generic ear-filler. While I'm sure it would have been effective either way, the method used in the finished page lets the reader read it more from Aunt Fara's perspective (as I'm sure she's gotten tired of the routine by now). I love how the artist's notes give me a chance to see behind the art, to see what motivated and went into the piece, and I'm glad that you do it for every page of "Rain".

And of course that means she'll be found out. I've seen enough manga to know where this is going...

Frankly i think the change is very good, because she has said these over and over again. Aunt Fara's right if she sticks by her friends she'll be fine. I just wonder what Rain will look like in her costume, somehow i think that Maria might be all over Rain that night.

Strangly enough I can relate to Fara in this page (even though I'm not a parent), and I've been in her position more times than I can count, but I don't mind, I don't expect she does either. Sometimes all people need is a good listener who can offer some advice in situations like this.

Anyway, nice update, keep up the good work ^_^
