RAIN p.6 - Tact by JocelynSamara RAIN p.6 - Tact by JocelynSamara

I'd like everyone to be aware that out of all of the 30+ pages I currently have prepared, this is my absolute LEAST favorite. I just don't like it. Maybe it's the layout or all the lazy copy/pasting or the fact that I can't draw cars worth crap.

Thinking positively though, that means it really only gets better from here.

Or maybe you'll like it more than I do. ^_^

It's funny, a lot of us spend most of our lives in cars, but not everyone can draw them well. Though you get the point across of a car in your comic, I feel you about drawing cars, Ma'am.

Panel 6 is the cutest I ever seen Aunt Fara-sama

As for the scene, it is a slow scene that needs to take its time. I believe that it was McCloud that said that more panels require the reader to concentrate on the moment and what you said of making every page count really turned out well. What I love the most is that we only see Fara and are oblivious to what Rain is feeling. So its kind of expected, but kind of not when we actually see her all nervous with her eyes nothing more than little dotts. If you are anything like me you find jokes a little stupid, but situations can always be funny only because of a certain amount of predictability in the characters. It is a blessing.

To get into something serious, this is an important scene, my dad and my elder sister gave me a similar speech, though in their's its more about proving myself as an adult so that I can control my own fate. Which does make sense considering the fact that I'm not in a good situation of being my own person (live at home, don't have a job, have a mom that wants to keep me young). So in a sense, it is true, that if you can prove yourself as a responsible person and hold a caring heart that you can be what ever you wish. It is hard especially when people are judged for just being human. But anyway, I love them both and hope I can make them proud. I have no doubt that you can make your special ones proud too Jocelyn (smile)

I like jokes (and have sort of a guilty pleasure for puns), but I admit I have a preference for situational humor: stuff that no one is really laughing about at the time, but if you really think about it - especially afterward - it's sometimes really quite hilarious. As a writer, I primarily strive for that approach to comedy as it feels a little more natural to me. That and sarcastic dialogue.

I never got such a speech actually. But before I started going public, I remember reading TONS of articles online that basically gave me the same idea. It's terrible to have to think about everything that could go wrong, but it is REALLY important to know the stakes before going into anything. Especially in this case, it can really put things into perspective if you realize your will to pursue outweighs your fear of judgment.

Well, at least we know what to expect and that nothing bad happens because of ignorance. And I'm happy you have done your research, even though it was alone. But either way, we all needed to know what to expect

I do thank you for the advise inthe past few pages. I took them to my heart and hope in some way it does honor you as a creator from using the tools you have provided me.

The part of being different or neurotic she probably has a little OCD but it will probably be a good thing in this case because she looks good. I have OCD (although I never been diagnosed with it) and it probably not good in my case.

I'm the same way; I've never been officially diagnosed with OCD, but I'm relatively positive that I am.

Anyway, I agree, I think being OCD actually would prove pretty useful given her situation. In this case, it's definitely better to be too attentive to every little detail than kinda lax.

In case there were any doubts that Rain had a personality. XD

Apparently, the aunt is telling her to wield her OCD like a weapon to ward off needless situations...

Fair enough. I guess Rain hasn't had a lot of opportunity to really act yet. It's just 'cause she's so shy. ^_^

One's OCD can be a mighty weapon if utilized correctly. It could also really backfire though if not. Really, kind of a gamble.

No, no - being just neurotic enough that you won't BE abused! It's like a defense mechanism made of win!

What could go wrong?

It's not bad, just too similar i suppose; you also need to give yourself some time.

So far, while I love the comic, i do notice that the quality levels of individual drawings (while still good) aren't quite where your normal stuff would be. Probably due to the strain of making something so BIG in a limited amount of time - something all artists experience with webcomics, i think.

Yet, like the rest, I fully expect your work to blossom as a result, until you can do a full sized comic better than any single drawing you've ever done previous to this point. (I've heard comics being described as steroids for artists.)(

Defense mechanisms made of win usually ARE the best kind. Way better than those made of fail. :XD:

There is a definite dip in the quality of my artstyle for the sake of this comic. You pretty much got it on the nose though; I'm trying to make it easier for myself to produce things at a quick and consistent pace. I'm sure as it goes on though, I'll be able to adapt a bit better and put more into future pages. At least, that's the idea anyway. ^_^
