RAIN p.51 - The Best Week Ever by JocelynSamara RAIN p.51 - The Best Week Ever by JocelynSamara
(Eight more minutes? Eh. Close enough. ^_^)

Kind of amazed I could fit the whole title for this one.

I get such amusement out of watching Gavin become progressively more and more exhausted as the week goes on. And albeit unintentional, I’m further amused by how he kinda looks like Stephen Stills from the “Scott Pilgrim” graphic novels by the time Friday rolls around.

On the other hand, while this is basically a gag page, if I’ve done my job right, you might be feeling sympathetic for Gavin at the same time... once you've finished your hearty laugh, that is.

By the way, I’m just throwing this out there because I’m not sure if this has been entirely clear: the whole story thus far has only covered five days at this point. Chapter 1 was Monday and chapter 2 was Tuesday. The rest of the school week was covered in this page. Hence, we’re up to Friday evening now. ^_^

My experience is that all school nurses are callous old crones who think you're trying to get out of class. I'm kind of amazed that job requires any medical training when it involves chewing out a sick kid before handing him a tylenol and sending him back to class.

They legally have to do that, if the kid is just being truant or worse trying to get pills to pop, it is their responsibility to make sure they don't get what they want through them, if someone is visibly in pain, they find out why and do what they can.

They serve no purpose then, fire them all and ease the burden on the taxpayers.

Better yet, just make compulsory schooling illegal. Schools are nothing more a prison for children.

except can you imagine the state of the country if no-one went to school? there might not have ever been an internet, WWI and II may have been lost i wouldn't want soldiers who can't read a map, or scouts that can't count, pilots who can't understand the difference between air speed and ground speed, now would I? Its a mandate because it used to be only for the rich.

How cute that you think schools exist to educate and not indoctrinate.

I understand indoctrination IS an exploited side effect, but so is technological and economic progress, a small price to pay

Conscripted schooling destroys lives. It destroyed mine. You'd be best to stop trying to convince me otherwise.

I may have come off wrong, that sort of thing really varies on the local demographic, for instance, my hometown is very liberal and diverse, by extension so is the school district, awareness activities of all sorts were paired up with health in middle school, and one of the most well advertised clubs in highschool was an LGBT group, heck asking about someone's religion was nothing more than small talk, and nothing came of it. I do realize that isn't the case in much of the country, but I all too often forget that. Deprecating authority figures destroy lives, in your case it was the ones in school. Yes you were denied too much, but I don't think you were destroyed, to use a modified quote from Doctor Who "Great [people] are forged in fire, it is the privilege of lesser [people] to light the flame." by lesser people I mean not the ones who degraded you, but who you were before, you made it through, your will was the flame,

That may be more the asses who run the schools then the schools themselves, no different than the horrible things people do for money, yet we still use it, no system is perfect, and I am sorry for what happened to you, shouldn't happen to anyone, but when people forget the bigger picture, they get close to a slippery slope, laws that prevent it would make more sense than abolishing mandatory education

I' amazed you can fit the title as well, I can't even fit two words sometimes.

About the week, it really is kind of sad. I'm amazed at the number of people that say it was awesome to see Gavin go through it. But as a human being, no one deserves to be sad. MY only hope is that Gavin gets better and that he can bounce back from this. I maybe hated for that, but that is what I feel. Its kind of like the curse of transsexuality. Basically that when its kept to yourself it ends up eating us away like a disease. The only cure would be to let it go. Only for that same sorrow to effect others and through their mentality never let it go. It is a fate that no one should spread to others, but at the same time shouldn't keep to themselves.

My favorite part is Fathjer Quenton's message for detention, that is definitely something he would do for the sake of weilding the power. The only way to make it worse is if he said it to Gavin's face right there. Makes you wonder if the holy or the unholy are at work here.

I actually want to read Scott Pilgrim now because of your little comment (not like I wasn't anyway). Though since your Scott Pilgrimpic that has definitely sealed the deal.

I'm also fascinated with how you scripted the story. The way the story came into your head you never would've guessed that it has only been two days. But to me that is good, because it makes you think you really ave traveled so far with the cast on this journey. And now that its Friday I look forward to how the cast spend their wekends in these topsy-turvey lives they have.

Awwww. Gavin. I still love you!

Pull yourself together, man!

I did not have uniforms in school, so the idea of Gavin getting detention for his stubble kind of amuses me. The poor guy just can't get a break. I have always been in the minority of the pro-gavin crowd. Even though he seems kind of douche-y, I think he really does have it in him to be at least semi-understanding.

I am glad that you did not make him a villain, but rather a guy who just doesn't get it. It would have been real easy to just make him an angry side character, but I think I like him better this way.

Yeah. This was actually a rule back when I went to a Catholic high school. To ensure uniformity, all boys had to be clean-shaven at all times. If they had some sort of excess stubble that was noticed by a teacher, they would get detention. I also recall hearing rumors of them having to shave it at the school with razors supplied by the school that were... less than hygeinic (but that one, I can't confirm).

I don't know if that rule still stands at my old school, or if other schools had the same idea. But it's one of those things that I remember from my school life so I felt it fit the situation. ^_^
