RAIN p.29 - Doctor's Note by JocelynSamara RAIN p.29 - Doctor's Note by JocelynSamara

You know, this is probably the most ďactionĒ to appear in this comic to date. ^_^

For all of her teasing, thereís probably nobody who cares more about Rain than Aunt Fara. You really kinda canít blame her for getting upset anyway. Itís frustrating to hear someone speak ill of or make accusations toward someone you care about. Itís even more frustrating when their remarks are completely wrong and baseless. And then itís downright infuriating when you canít even tell them why theyíre wrong in the effort of keeping a secret. Metaphorically speaking, Mrs. Parker was walking blindly into a lionís den and stepping on every tail along the way; she didnít know it, but she kinda had it coming.

And donít worry, Mrs. Parker will be fine. Itís just a rolled-up, poster-size piece of paper (Faraís studentís homework). Aunt Fara wasnít trying to hurt her, after allÖ just shut her up.

As a side note, it was entirely unintentional, but the pairing of these two characters reminds me vaguely of Yukari and Nyamo from Azumanga Daioh (possibly due to the dramatic poster slap). Mrs. Parker wasnít originally meant to be that important of a character, but I think Iíd like to explore more of this dynamic in the future. ^_^

I've been put in this kind of situation with my dysphoria before, my mother made the school take me out of P.E, otherwise she'd have me put to a different school where it would be easier explained and I wouldn't have to be "outed" in changing rooms. :/

nyeh nyeh nyeh Well, my son can do it, so everyone should be able to...
Sorry, gym teachers like that just REALLY piss me off. One of my friends nearly puked trying to run the mile, another was having trouble breathing, but the coach still made them do it.
How is Aunt Fara going to get a doctor's note? My mom's a PA, and she understands gender dysphoria, but she wouldn't say a kid has asthma when they don't. Unless Rain really does have asthma and can exaggerate for the doc?

Yikes. That's pretty sucky. I thought there would be laws against gym teachers doing stuff like that.

Rain actually has asthma, but it's not really all THAT bad, so that might be a bit of a problem to convince them to write such a note. Not to mention, I don't imagine EVERY doctor would be quite as understanding about Rain's particular situation (I don't doubt that it's possible, but it's not a guarantee which would complicate things in this instance).

Well, at least for Rain, there's usually always a toilet or two in the girls locker room for the shy girls. Or if there's showers, walls or some sort of sectioned off area..

Didn't expect such a shift in mood. But I guess that is what happens when you get to deep into something personal. I don't know if I explain this before, but the this particular problem Rain (and others) has isn't just hers, but everyone's that she knows. To put it like this, its your friends and family's problem to because that is how much they care. And sometimes, for people like Rain having someone to share the pain really helps. After reading the page, I was still amazed people asked why Fara risked her life like that.

Aunt Fara, of coarse, is probably third favorite because of her sense of humor and defense toward Rain. Personal, she is the kind of parent we all wish we had. To be not only fun but strong when we need it. And to say Rain was making excuses was simply asking for it from any parent even if she wasn't tg. Look forward to more Azumanga Diaoh omage in the future, now interedted in reading because of you.

Off topic, I'm glad I can imagine so much. Like I imagine Ms Parker sounding so timid compared to Fara, adding to the since that she is picking a fight with a lion. And Aunt Fara, interestingly, sounds like Kumatora from Mother 3. I guess when I played it I thought of her sounding kind of boyish and strong as a contraction to Lucas. Basically sounds feminine, but volcal range is slighty deeper. Kind of hard to explain, but to me that is one of the perfect Aunt Fara voices.

Anyway, great pg. Love the situation involved and hopefully I can see more 'meanwhile' craziness while Rain is doing something else (as long as it helps with the story of coarse).

Personally, I love toying with mood. I think the best dark scenes tend to immediately follow comical scenes, whereas some of the best laughs come in the middle of otherwise really intensely serious scenes. I find suddenly leaping to the opposite end of the spectrum takes people off guard in a very positive way (most of the time). You'll probably find I jump around with these often enough in Rain... and a lot of the other things I do. ^_^

Have you never read Azumanga Daioh? I'm surprised. I highly recommend it though. Really hilarious.

Fara's voice, I always imagined being deep and strong as well, while still womanly. She's a tough chick, for all intents and purposes, and doesn't like to take crap from anyone. But her voice also needs a very motherly quality. I have an actress in mind actually (one of the few characters that does), but her name escapes me at the moment...

I saw Azumanga Diaoh as an omnibus collection at barnes (barnes&noble) a lot, but wasn't sure since there were soooo many things to read already. But seeing your recommendation will make me add it to HM, His and Her Circumstances, and NHK. Trust you.

Your idea of mood is really admireable as well. I can admit that I don't want to say I'm copying your method, but as a teacher you have really helped to look at what is the best way to tell the story. Personal, these exchanges are an honor to have with you.

As for Fara's voice, just worry about it when you start that voice actor meme, I can be patient. But either way, your description is really the best way to describe it. Look forward to your vision of Rain and co (Rudy especially).

Stress. It's a terrible thing. In the past 60 seconds before all of this happened, Fara:

- Dropped her students' homework all over the floor
- Almost screwed up and outed Rain to her sister on the phone
- Learned that her plan to protect her beloved niece won't work
- Just got lectured by a married woman with a kid when she herself is unmarried (tends to be a touchy subject for older unmarried women)
- Listened to someone accuse her beloved niece of being a liar

Sure, Fara is not really in the right here, but she just kinda snapped.

Probably didn't hurt so much as it surprised the heck out of her. :O_o:

I mean, she does have the bandage, so maybe it stung a little, but overall, it wasn't going to give her a concussion or anything.
