RAIN p.26 - FAQ by JocelynSamara RAIN p.26 - FAQ by JocelynSamara

Welcome to my world. Iíve been asked every last one of these questions at one time or another (many of them, more than once). Most of these (and many others) tend to be more likely to induce a facepalm than an answer.

Now, please donít misunderstand. If someone has questions for me about transsexuality for the sake of better understanding the situation and condition and whatnot, I would be happy to educate others on what I have learned and experienced over the years. I mean, itís certainly better to ask questions (whether good or not so good) than to make derogatory remarks or accusations. I guess theyíre not technically invalid questions, but think of it like this: When I tell someone Iím transgendered, it tends to be a less than easy task for me. So when I entrust this heavy aspect of my life which for better or worse has made me everything I am today, and the first question I get is ďdo you sit to peeĒ, Iím going to feel just a little bit insulted.

Anyway, venting aside it IS supposed to be a joke page. I mean, normally I donít get barraged like this (thankfully). ^_^

Also worth noting is the extremely experimental page layout. I hope itís not too hard to follow. Just start at the top and follow it down.

The best question I've ever got was from a lady in her sixties asking me WHILE I WAS AT WORK how I have sex.  'In a manner that doesn't involve or concern you', should've been my answer.  XP

When I need to go, I tend to have to poop as well.
So that requires me to sit down...
Although just sitting on the toilet can be very relaxing... XD

But it is a valid question! Obviously, having little brothers whose mother potty trained them, I know you can, but not everyone would know it's even possible.

Nyan...."How do you make your boobs look so real"....definately a question I have.....

Come to think of it, that might make an interesting interlude. Rain in her early stages of transitioning, wherein she's still figuring this whole thing out....

Although that may just be something I'm personally interested in seeing, for the sake of learning. ^^;

I'm a "guy", and I carry around condoms when with guy friends who don't know. Because, ya know, they kinda expect that stuff.

I love this. I think the story overall is really good. Poor Rain- I don't think anyone regardless of gender would want to answer those questions especially in public. Its sad that these are some of people's first thoughts when they find out someone is transgender. Personally, I don't really want to know what underwear any of my friends wear, or how they go to the bathroom whatever their gender/gender identity is.

Thank you very much! I'm glad you're enjoying the story so far! :D

And agreed. I personally don't think anyone ACTUALLY wants to know the answers to these questions. I figure it's like this: they just want to ask "something" to be supportive, but haven't actually put enough thought in to come up with a more meaningful question. Then what comes out is "Do you sit to pee?" Really, I imagine it's probably just as embarrassing for the third party in this case as it is the transsexual. ^^;

He's just curious, a lot of people go their whole lives without meeting someone who is transgendered (I hope I said that right I think we need a better word).

I think it's nicer when somebody just goes "..Do you sit to pee?"
instead of making a huge deal about it. It shows they're willing to joke about it and stuff.

So forgot to mention the panel layout (facepalm). As an experiment I fully approve of it. Much like what you did with Fara on page.....6 i think, yoj narrowed the focus on the speaker making us the listeners kind of overwhelmed by the info that we have to take in. So far it worked well, especially with the mutant word balloons as they try to compensate for the new info that has been shoved in there. Fara being older and more sophisticated in her speech gives a panel to each sentence. Rudy, however, younger and a little more spontanious gets two panels and constrained speech. It maybe the same act of overwhelming the reader the same way as Rain with excessive info, but you really have provided good personality to each with how the panels and word balloons are played out in each. Maria however trying to be polite, gets her question in while we notice the sweat fall from Rain's hair, poor thing.

(Sorry for leaving that out, hope it helps)

The question of the day is 'can there be to many questions?' Maybe a little. I don't think its wrong to answer questions, but I think after at least five it starts to become a school test you weren't prepared for. And if it was me, I would probably have to take a nap after answering so many questions. But no big deal, at least its from Rudy and not from anyone who doesn't deserve an answer.

To be honest, that I think is the best thing about Rudy's questions. That they are ment to understand rather than to be the basis of a joke (calling out the ignorant of the world). Annoyance it may have, its still great to have such a friend close by.

I don't know how you would think of this, but I am a firm fighter for questions rather than answers. Answers will always limit you while a question helps you go forward. Remember that at Rain's basic level its a story of self identity. The fun part of this is asking 'where does she go from here?' No different than 'how will Rydia move on from Baron's attack on her home?' 'How will Terra accept that it was the empire that killed and not her?' or even 'how will Paula express her feelings for Ness?' Sometimes the questions don't lead the story forward, but as an artist, these questions always bring to life that no matter how big or small You are on an adventure. So I guess the answer for 'can there be too many questions?' would be 'to a degree.'

(sorry for the rpg references, but so far they make some of the best examples for story flow and character symmatry.)

I have mixed feelings about this. I prefer there to be lots of questions. But there also needs to be some answers. I mean, if all we get are questions, only to have the story drag on with absolutely no form of resolution to ANYTHING that's been asked, then you start to lose insentive to continue reading/watching/caring (at least, that's how I am). To me, the truly limiting thing is expanding upon the story by leaving things unanswered for too long.

In my own works, things need to be resolved occasionally. It can be little things or big things. A good writer can make new questions when the old ones are answered. This helps to keep things fresh as the story progresses AND prevents a needlessly convoluted ending where everything needs to be wrapped up all at once (or worse yet, an ending where nothing is resolved because the writer couldn't fit it all in).

At least, this is how I feel about it.

I believe you explained yourself so much better. It is true that you need so resolutions for a sense of fullfillment. I just say that questions can help keep the story alive in some way, where as answers tend to limit the imagination you invest in the story. But I guess its how someone goes about answering these questions. And if the answer seems 'flow' with the question and vice versa than I guess it shows how flat the story is. Either way, your stories aren't flat and your questions (even those answered) still echo after I took my taste of your work.

Just my way of thinking but If you were to take the frame of all three sitting together and make it fill the top two frames ( as one frame not two ) and then put the images of Rudy on the left side ( in frame set 3,5, and 7 ) and from those three frame sets merge the word bubbles out into frames 4,6 and 8 which would be one frame itself. then frame 9 and 10 normally. In this you'd be able to draw rain in frames 3,5, and 7 and include more Rain Emotions if so desired. I could see her waiving her arms around frantically and what not then a sigh of relief when Moria tells Rudy off. But that's just me. This is nice how you're doing a look through Rain's eyes as a comentary.

Sorry. I'm used to reading Manga that flow like that. Also I like the giant profile that masks over most the frames or spans two pages. It's usually done when there's a dramatic type scene involved. Like for instance if Rain goes into the locker room I can see that frames one and two being normal then frames 3 to the last one being one big frame of her standing in the door ( back to us ) and everyone is getting changed/looking at her as she stands there.
